Patchwork Quilt Project
Turkish Women's Philanthropic Association of England-Patchwork Quilt Project

For centuries women have been making patchwork quilts from fine silks and cottons. The oldest still in existence is the Tristan Quilt dating back to 1360 and originating in Sicily, however patchwork quilts date as far back as ancient Egypt and China, 5000 years ago.
Patchwork quilts symbolise strength, resilience, security and family which is part of the foundations of the TWPA in our efforts to help our community thrive. It also symbolises the bonds between women of different generations and their enduring legacy. Our new project hopes to bring together Turkish speaking women from all generations as we knit a patchwork bedspread together. This bed-spread will be auctioned off at this years CTCA Turkish Cypriot Festival at the end of June in aid of sponsoring a Turkish Cypriot orphan child through their childhood and education.
Not just a patchwork bedspread but a unique, one of a kind heirloom made from the fair hands of the women of the Turkish Community. A piece of history that can be treasured for generations to come.
